Disney is or least in the past, has been...
1. Sexist
2. Racist
3. Anti-Semitic
4. Promoted bullying
5. Been accused of adding subliminal sexual content
6. Accused of terribly acting
7. Having beautiful real life renditions of cartoon characters
8. Portraying real life cartoon character renditions as mutes, depressing.
9. Not having a castle actually made of candy
10. Taking over marvel -_-
How is Disney sexist?
Ever seen a woman empowered in one of the old cartoons, didn't think so, although there was Mulan and Anastasia, buttttt didn't they both need a man to help them see their full potential and did they both not need to prove themselves in a patriarchy meaning, were they not just on a journey to prove a point to a man? See, yes they may have been empowered but why did they need to be empowered? Well because they were living under a patriarch. Anastasia actually had to prove who she was, to men, and then they didn't even believe her a one point. Both of these girls also had scary old men as enemies. What about the hunchback of notre dame!? Forgot about that one eh? Well what about that one, ya sure the damsel in distress was Quasimodo and ya a girl helped him out, ya there was a male enemy that needed to be defeated, BUT why was there so pretty boy joker who sava both of them pretty much and walks away with the girl in the end? Quasimodo just should have hill smashed pretty boys face in and be like "dude, hard block, not cool!" Ariel had a witch as an enemy but it was not Ariel who saved herself or killed the witch.
Who saves these ladies?
Men do, stereotypically good looking burley men save these ladies. Why they do this in disney movies is simply understood as rescuing the damsel in distress. Lady is in trouble and she needs saving. Ya but Meg from hercules! She said "yes, I am a damsel, yes I am in distress, but I don't need to be saved, I got this" (paraphrasing) then hercules is his regular shy and timid self but then is forced to fight the centaur groping meg. Now in reality, there are girls who claim they are being taken advantage of or act don't want "joe the jerk" getting all close to her and what not, but then (and to this day it still pisses me off that girls do this) get even more pushy yet flirty with the guy and instead of walking away they endorse the behaviour, when you talk to then later, you get "ya joe the jerk, he is disgusting and rude, wouldn't leave me alone, etc." you just shake your head and wonder where she is gonna learn self esteem. Anyways, the point I'm making is, that women are constantly objectified in disney films, or subjected to some sort of lesser being paradigm in a patriarchal culture.
How does disney portray racism, anti-semitism and what not?
Easy! Ever listen to the lyrics of Aladdin? No, well you will now lol so bad! And how do they portray the people where Aladdin lives, then take a close look, where does he live again? Why do they all look the way they would in the Middle East and he is white!? Get out! Same with jasmine lol
In most disney movies, that don't include animal based films or pure voice overs by African American actors or musicians, are there many coloured characters or even major characters, not including the recent "frog Princess" or whatever. Yes it doesn't count because I am saying in the past they were bad, they have cleaned up their act, no pun intended :p
The voices in the jungle book, listen closely, look at who the vulture's voices are as well as their characteristics. Looking at the lion king, how do they portray the lowest of low (hyenas) think about the voices carefully and the actions of hyenas.
I feel like I'm beating a dead horse if I have not convinced you to look more into via YouTube videos or actual websites. You need to open your eyes...unless you just don't care, then, well, whatever amigo.
Ciao for now,
CB
